Suddenly it is spring! So many signs of spring abound in Santa Barbara, and the library is ready!

On March 18 at 7pm, the library will be the site of an event hosted by The Middle East Studies Club to celebrate the arrival of Spring with the ancient Persian festival of Nowruz. The celebrations will include a Persian New Year display (“Haft Sinn”), an explanation of the symbols displayed and rituals observed around this festival, poetry readings, music, and sweets and tea served in Persian fashion.
A resolution passed in Congress recently recognizes “the cultural and historical significance of Nowruz, expressing appreciation to Iranian-Americans for their contributions to society, and wishing Iranian-Americans and the people of Iran a prosperous new year.” Read HR267the resolution for more information. Probably one of the only recent references to Cyrus the Great in U.S. legislative action!
