Hispanic Heritage Month

Contributions to American culture by Hispanics are far too many to number or list, but can be celebrated!

September 15th through October 15th is National Hispanic Heritage Month. The library collection includes many books about Hispanic history and culture, some of which are currently on display in the library. You can also find library resources online, such as the Encyclopedia of Latin American History and Culture. For information on Chicano history and culture in particular, check out the library’s Chicano Studies Research Guide.

Join the the American Ethnic Studies Department and the SBCC Ethnic Studies Club at a special viewing of the film The Other Side of Immigration on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 from 4:00-5:00 p.m. in A-211.. Based on over 700 interviews, the film asks why so many Mexicans leave home to work in the United States and what happens to the families and communities they leave behind. Through an approach that is both subtle and thought provoking, the film challenges audiences to imagine more creative and effective immigration policies.
