New intern this semester
Hello everyone! My name is Jennifer and I am the new virtual intern for the library this semester. I am a graduate student, studying Library and Information Science at San Jose State University. I live in San Jose and work in the little town of Morgan Hill nearby. Here are some fun facts about me!
Name: Jennifer Corob
Position: Virtual Intern
Currently Reading: Tidal Wave, a collection of short stories by Georges Simenon
My favorite book assigned in a college class: Pride and Prejudice– not a textbook, but a delightful work of fiction that I was able to enjoy all over again in a Literature class while I was studying English at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
Special projects I’ll be working on: I will be updating the library social media (Facebook/Twitter), editing and creating research guides, and writing blog posts for the library.
Why I want to be a librarian: I’ve always loved reading and books. One of my most cherished childhood memories is when my classmates and I would gather around the feet of the school librarian during a special trip to the library, and sit down together so she could read us a book. Books are a great way to escape into your imagination or learn countless new things. With the growing influence of computers and other electronic sources of knowledge that books, for the most part, once provided, it is imperative for someone comfortable with new technology to guide the public towards information literacy, and I want nothing more than to be that sort of guide while keeping the tradition of books alive.
Something interesting about me: In my free time, I like to watch classic movies, read cooking blogs, read interesting new books from the library, go to farmer’s markets, go to museums, and visit with friends in my favorite corners of San Francisco. I’m taking six units of classes this semester along with working a full time job at an online tutoring company, but I take advantage of my free time on the weekends as much as possible.
I look forward to sharing the semester with you and helping to represent Luria Library!
