Earth Day and Environmental Issues

Earth Day has a special meaning for Santa Barbara. Earth Day was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson from Wisconsin who wanted to respond to a massive oil spill off Santa Barbara, California in 1969. President Bill Clinton awarded Sen. Nelson the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1995 for his role as Earth Day founder.

It’s still a very important day locally. Find out what is happening in town.

On campus, our Center for Sustainability leads the way in projects, activities, education, and leadership around environmental issues.
