Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month
Hispanic Heritage Month begins today, September 15, the day that the countries of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua celebrate the anniversary of their independence. It will continue until October 15, encompassing the independence days of both Mexico on the 16th and Chile on the 18th as well as Columbus day or Día de la Raza, celebrated on the 12th of October.
This month seeks to highlight the contributions of the Hispanic American Population, a people who according to the United States Census Bureau, comprise 17.1% of the national population and 38.4% of the population of the state of California.
