This week is Banned Books Week, a national campaign that celebrates the freedom to read and draws attention to attempts to censor or question reading materials across the country.

We’ll be celebrating at Luria Library with a display of books that have been banned or challenged across the nation from our own collection, and you can help celebrate. Come by, pick up a book, and read. Don’t feel like coming to the library? You can access books in the public domain for free online through the Internet Archive.

Then have some fun posting on Facebook or Twitter with our social media contest.

Here are the contest rules

  1. Select a banned book you have read or read one today.
  2. Post a comment on our Facebook page or tweet to @lurialibrary using #bannedbooks.
  3. You must be enrolled this semester at SBCC.

The contest will run September 22-28. Winners will be selected randomly. Winners will be announced on Facebook and Twitter on October 2.
