Thank you for spreading the word!
Pat Mora, acclaimed author of children’s books, poetry and nonfiction, will give the 2016 Arbuthnot Honor Lecture in Santa Barbara, CA, on Friday, April 15th. Sponsored by the Association for Library Services to Children, a division of the American Library Association, the lecture is a wonderful opportunity for teachers, librarians, educators, and parents to be inspired by a leading light in children’s literature. Prior winners of this honor include Maurice Sendak, Lois Lowry, Ursula LeGuin, Brian Selznick and many other familiar names in children’s literature.
“Bookjoy!, ¡Alegria en los libros!,” the title of the lecture, is an expression Mora coined to describe the power and pleasure of words. The free lecture will be at the Garvin Theatre on the campus of Santa Barbara City College at 7 pm. The lecture will be followed by a reception and book signing. Tickets are free but required. To be assured a seat, please register for a free ticket in advance at www.tinyurl.com/MoraSBCC
Mora will also lead a storytime in the Santa Barbara Central Library’s celebration of Día (Children’s Day, Book Day/El día de los niños, El día de los libros) on Saturday, April 16. For more information about the Arbuthnot lecture, visit www.sbplibrary.org.
