Children’s Book Week

Luria Library Children's Section

This week we are celebrating Children’s Book Week. Starting April 30, visit our display in the library entry area to view books that introduce children to topics in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

Why does a college library have children’s books?

Our collection of children’s books serves two main purposes. First, it exists to serve the Early Childhood Education (ECE) department’s curriculum. Our books are the basis of research for ECE’s course in children’s literature.

Second, many of our students are also parents or guardians of children. Supervised children are welcome in the library, and we want to make sure that being here is a positive experience for them. Our selection of engaging, quality children’s books gives them a fun way to spend their time while their grown-ups study. Students can also check out these books to take home to their little ones.

SBCC offers a number of resources for parents, including the CARE program for single parents and a childcare center for ages 12 months through five years.
