Hap-pi π Day!
To celebrate, the SBCC Math Club will be in the library selling slices of pie, starting at 8am, until supplies run out. If you’re a Pi Day purist, enjoy your slice at exactly 3:14 pm!
Pi (π) is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. Pi has been calculated to over one trillion digits beyond its decimal point. It continues infinitely without repetition or pattern.
Math is a part of everything; there’s no need to fear it! In How to bake π : an edible exploration of the mathematics of mathematics, professor Eugenia Cheng provides an accessible introduction to the logic and beauty of mathematics, powered, unexpectedly, by insights from the kitchen. We have the eBook and the print version (on the shelves at 510.1 C518h) for your enjoyment!
Another fun read that turns our ideas about math on their head is Math Curse, in our Children’s Books section: J F S416m
