Catalog Course Description: This course in an historical survey of black people in American society and culture from the African background to World War II, with special emphasis on contributions, institutions, trends, movements, and problems relevant to Black America. A balanced emphasis is placed on social, political, economic, and intellectual considerations.

Task

Conduct research for a 20-50 minute group presentation which will briefly review the topic and educate the class further by engaging your class through participation.

Group Presentation Update

The least amount of references for full credit:

  • 1 from course reading;
  • 1 from an internet site (web page) listed on the library handout/wiki;
  • 1 peer review/scholarly article or book; and
  • 1 reference book from the Luria Library

Search for your topic here and you will find excellent materials such as: 396 pamphlets from 1824-1909 written by African-American authors and others, about slavery, African colonization, Emancipation, Reconstruction, and related topics.
